Stone’s neighbourhood police officers and PCSOs have a new home, in the town council building in Station Road.
Opening times at the new police post enquiry office are exactly the same as they were at the station in Radford Street – 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. It will be open to the public at 9am on Wednesday 28th January.
The move has been in the planning since 2011 as Staffordshire Police looked to share accommodation after a review of its estate, fuelled by the need to reduce its overall budget.
In January 2012, then Stafford Borough Local Policing Commander Paul Trevor wrote an open letter to people in the town to explain why the relocation would be happening. You can read that by clicking HERE
He said: “I am absolutely committed to the delivery of local policing in Stone and there are no plans whatsoever to remove the neighbourhood police officers and PCSOs currently based at Stone police station.”
The future of the police station building in Radford Street is unknown.

I think the TC rent it from the County Council for a nominal sum

I understand that the Northesk Street Free Car Park will not be included in any disposal/development of the Police Station site, although I understand it is legally part of the site. If it does close the parking problem for residents in Stonefield will just multiply as people use the area for all day work parking. Stafford BC need to re-think the 4 hour limit on Christchurch Way + Crown Street if people who drive to Stone to work are not going to park in residential streets preventing residents from parking near their own houses !

Thanks Peter – we’ll ask the question about the car park. I thought it was owned by the town council, though?
