The Co-operative Bank is to close its branch in Stone High Street.
Co-op banks in Stone – as well as in Stoke, Blythe Bridge, Baddeley Green, Biddulph, Cheadle and Congleton – will close between April and July this year as part of a national closure programme that is seeing 57 branches shut down across the country.
The Co-operative Bank in Stone was originally a Britannia branch before a merger of the two institutions a few years ago. The Co-operative has had a troubled recent history and in 2013 was the subject of a rescue plan. Bosses say the closures are part of a programme to make the business more streamlined and cost-effective.
