Lymestone Brewery’s first pub in Stone – The Borehole – is now open for business.
Brad and Viv welcomed people to Stone’s newest pub, which is just a stone’s throw from the brewery itself on Mount Road, on Thursday evening for a sneak preview ahead of its grand opening tonight (20th March).
If you’ve been to their award-winning pub in Newcastle, The Lymestone Vaults, then you’ll know what to expect – a warm, cosy, welcoming environment with just enough quirky character to keep things interesting. A Double Diamond lamp (fitted with LED lighting that uses just 1W, Brad – a real environmental enthusiast – proudly says).
The building has had many uses over the years, but it was originally the main office for Bents’s Brewery, which once occupied the whole of the Mount Road industrial estate size. Brewery workers would have filed in to get their wages on a Friday, so it’s fitting that the building has returned to its malt-and-hops roots.
The refurbishment has taken around four months, lovingly project managed by Viv, and there was even lots of help from brewery supporters, who picked up their paintbrushes in exchange for bacon butties to get the pub decorated and ready for its opening.
Brad and Viv want The Borehole to be a real community pub, and Brad hopes to get a darts team up and running for starters.
There are five regular Lymestone beers, one seasonal special, two guest beers and lagers from Abbots Bromley’s excellent Freedom Brewery on offer, as well as other tipples too.
Opening hours are still being finalised, but it will be open at lunchtimes and from early evening onwards. You can keep up to date with all the Borehole news on the pub’s Facebook page HERE
It’s a brilliant addition to Stone’s already thriving pub scene. We hope it’s a huge success.
