It’s the first Stone Puppet Festival this weekend (8th and 9th August) and there’s a packed programme of shows, workshops, exhibitions and more.
The bunting has gone up in the High Street this week – with the help of Stone in Bloom – and High Street shops have joined in, with puppets made from local schoolchildren in many, a fantastic window display at Home & Colour and even an appearance from Dr Who and the Tardis at Hylands.
The festival opening parade, starting from the town council car park in Station Road at 10.30am on Saturday – is almost here. Everyone is welcome to take part – and fancy dress is being positively encouraged! If you are taking part, make sure you arrive at the car park for 1oam.
It’s shaping up to be a fantastic weekend of entertainment for all the family – so head for the town centre on Saturday and/or Sunday and join in the fun.
As well as ticketed performances in the Crown Hotel on both days – Alice in Wonderland, Puppet Gruffalo and Victorian Cinderella – there is lots going on in Market Square and the High Street, with lots of free performances and puppet-making workshops, as well as puppetry and storytelling in Stone library on the Saturday.
There are also exhibitions and displays in the Crown Hotel from 11am each day, including characters and sets from the original Thunderbirds.
