Julian and Derrington based co-driver Mikey Herritts just had to finish in the points at the Rainworth Skoda Dukeries Rally  to clinch the overall title from nearest rival Adam Evans.

The former Alleyne’s Academy pupil had a difficult start to the rally. On Stage 1 a fellow competitor spun in front of him, with the collision damaging a front wing. Despite the early setback, Jones and Herritts soon recovered and finished the eight stages (a mixture of Tarmac and loose gravel over 55.64 miles) in eighth place overall.

Julian, who owns William Jones Motors on Longton Road in Stone, is the most successful ever competitor in the championship having won the title on four previous occasions.

[box type=”info” align=”aligncenter” ]The Heart of England Championship is contested over eight rallies from the Brean Stages in January to the Dukeries Rally in October, with a competitor’s best five results counting towards the title. Donington Park was hosting the Dukeries Rally for the first time since 1970 and its first rally since the 1998 Network Q Rally of Great Britain.[/box]
