2019 General Election – Register to Vote Information

General ElectionA General Election will take place on Thursday 12th December 2019 and below we’ve summarised what you need to do to register to vote.

Deadlines

  • To vote in person you MUST register by midnight on 26th November to vote in the General Election on 12 December.
  • If you want to apply to vote by post then register before 5pm on 26th November
  • If you’re going to be abroad on election day, you can apply to vote by proxy after you’ve registered. It takes time to vote by post from overseas.

Who can register

You can register if you’re both:

  • aged 16 or over
  • a UK citizen (or an Irish, EU or Commonwealth citizen with a permanent UK address)

Please note however you will not be able to vote until you are 18. 

How to register

The Government has an online service to register to vote or change your details. It usually takes about 5 minutes and can be found at – https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
