Shell Walton submits plans to replace petrol station with new facility including electric car charging

Shell Scheme Plan 2021Shell has lodged new plans with Stafford Borough Council to redevelop their Walton site with a completely new shop, forecourt and 4 car electric charging facilities.

Back in November 2019, we reported on a previous set of plans that would see the Walton site flattened and a new facility put in its place.

The plans were approved in early 2020, however, Shell didn’t put the scheme into operation and have now submitted new plans stating:

“Planning permission was granted in February 2020 for “replacement sales building associated with the existing petrol station, removal of car and jet washes, minor relocation of the HGV fuel island, alterations to the canopy, provision of car parking and associated works” (Ref: 19/31502/FUL).

This permission has not been implemented. Since the granting of this permission Shell has reviewed their requirements for the site and is now seeking permission for a different scheme.

The main changes relate to the location of the shop which has a knock on effect of requiring changes to the forecourt, plus the proposal now also includes an electric vehicle charging hub (four electric vehicle charging spaces).”

The newly submitted plans completely change the current and previously approved layout of the site.

The shop still has a significant increase in size over the current facility and is now to be located along the side that currently houses the car wash.

Parking that currently sits on the north side of the site is retained, this was switched in the previously agreed plan but it’s now being kept in its current location which should aid vehicles leaving the site.

4 electric charging bays will be provided where the current jet wash bays are, this will be welcomed by many Stone residents who can only access public charging at Morrisons Supermarket.

Petrol and diesel provision will remain as per current capacity, although with a different configuration.

All three current entry and exit points are to be retained in the new plans.
