Staffordshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Candidates

Stone residents will head to the polls on Thursday, the 2nd of May, to vote for a new Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) – here are the candidates in alphabetical order:

  • Ben Adams | Conservative Party | Outgoing commissioner, he’s held the post for the past three years after the elections were delayed due to Covid. Prior to his election, he was a district councillor in Lichfield and a county councillor in Tamworth.
  • Alec Sandiford | Liberal Democrats | A Stafford borough councillor who will also be the party’s parliamentary candidate for Stoke-on-Trent South at the next general election.
  • Alastair Watson | Labour Party | A Stoke-on-Trent city councillor since 2011, who also serves as cabinet member for financial sustainability and corporate resources.

The PFCC’s role is to set the priorities for the police and fire services in Staffordshire and hold the chief officers to account.

The last day to register to be able to take part in the elections is Tuesday, the 16th of April, and Stone residents can find out how by going to www.staffordbc.gov.uk/how-do-you-register-to-vote

Stone residents wanting to vote will need to show identification at polling stations. A full list of accepted forms of ID can be found at Voter ID | Electoral Commission – and people who do not have any of the accepted identification have until Wednesday, the 24th of April, to apply for a free ‘Voter Authority Certificate’ at www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate
