I have just received information from Stafford Borough Council that changes are to take place regarding early morning deliveries to Morrisons supermarket.
Historically there has been an agreement that no deliveries would be made to the supermarket before 7.00 a.m. or after 10.00 p.m. This agreement has been in place for many years following complaints about noise from neighbours in Mill Street.
It now appears that the Borough Council has agreed a ‘Quiet Deliveries Scheme’ with Morrisons under which the curfew is to be lifted to allow Morrisons to have a single vehicle delivery at 5.30 a.m. and again at 6.30 a.m. These deliveries will be carried out by Morrisons own vehicles (though why they should be any quieter than independent hauliers is beyond me!)
This arrangement is for a trial period of 6 weeks commencing Monday 30th August. The Borough Council state that if residents are disturbed by any noise from these earlier deliveries the Noise Abatement Society has set up a hotline on 0844 571 9599 or alternatively residents can report any problems direct to the Borough Council’s Environmental and Health Services on 01785 619752.
And, of course if any resident does lodge a complaint, I would be interested to hear about it. Please contact me, Richard Stevens, on 07939 450151.

This is pretty confusing really, being an ex-morrisons employee (Supervisor) i can see how it will benefit morrisons as a company and the customers. It means the deliveries are off the lorries in the warehouse ready for when the grocery, produce and fresh staff get in at 7am. Which means when the store opens at 9am you will get full availability and almost any product you want rather than having to come in and ask.
However we did get complaints from residents a lot about noise however, mainly in the evening. That said it all depends how the unloading is done. The lorries backing up onto the bays isn’t that noisy (Okay, sometimes lorry drivers are rubbish 😛 Taken one driver an hour to get it backed in before, that’s noisy)
The main noise comes from employees talking/shouting at each other. At 5:30am there isn’t really that many employee’s around… So that is a fair amount of the noise gone there. The other source of noise was/is the old noisy rickety “Rider truck” that is used to take the pallets off of the lorries. New one of them and unloading will be smoother there fore quieter…
I guess there is only one way to really find out if it causes any problems. That being said, the residents of the flats know what was near by when they purchased the flat, therefore can’t really complain, Heck, the train line makes more noise.
