Funding to help tackle male mental and physical health problems through sport and exercise is available, and local community clubs and societies across Stone and Mid Staffs are being urged to apply.
GVC Holdings has given the Community Foundation for Staffordshire £50,000 to distribute to organisations who can make a difference across the county by creating projects that can improve men’s health through sport and are particularly keen for applicants that will address men’s mental health.
The Foundation is inviting applications for grants of up to £5000 each for projects that focus on sports and physical activity with the aims to increase participation, build new skills and build community cohesion among men. A key objective of this funding is to support those with physical and mental health needs who will benefit from recreation and fitness activities. The closing date for applications is 28 October 2019.
Leanne Macpherson, Grants Manager at The Community Foundation for Staffordshire said: “We invite organisations to apply for funding as soon as possible. We are looking for ideas that will specifically benefit those with mental health issues as a separate initiative to their normal activities that will have a direct impact on those most in need.
For example, a community club employing a football coach with mental health training expertise to run special extra evening training sessions. We want to see specific activities that will create new opportunities for people, and we are looking forward to hearing from individuals and clubs.”
