Farewell to the wonderful Wikijum

Becky Moseley in Wikijum just a few days before its closure

Wikijum, Stone’s High Street Fairtrade shop, closed its doors for the final time on Saturday and will be really missed.

Owner Becky Moseley will be embarking on a career in gardening after bringing something truly unique to the town centre for the last eight-and-a-half years. Lots of people have posted some lovely comments on the Little Bit of Stone Facebook page, wishing Becky all the best and bemoaning the closure.

The building won’t be empty for long, though, as it’s being taken on by Maximum Health Care as a new health food shop.

Becky posted this message in the Wikijum shop window…

All the very best to Becky in her new ventures!

In other town centre news, Stone Pharmacy is now open in Lichfield Street, just across the road from the Thai Lanna restaurant.

The former Manley House Chinese takeaway just up the road is now open again as an Attwood solicitors. The office was opened on Friday by Stone MP Bill Cash. Ashley Attwood, principal solicitor at Attwood Solicitors, said “Our new office will be our hub for enquiries by residents seeking advice about the effects of the proposed HS2 rail route on their property. As a champion of the fight against HS2, Mr Cash was the ideal person to be guest of honour at our Stone launch. When we took the building on it was an eyesore and we have developed it sympathetically to provide an attractive building in keeping with Stone’s well presented High Street.”

Meanwhile, it’s been all change at the old Toddy Woodgate’s building in Granville Square. Bags Of Beautiful Gifts has moved to new premises round the corner in Radford Street and is now called Jolu Accessories Boutique. Jolu’s offers a wide range of jewellery, handbags, cards and accessories, and some new products and gifts.

Tylman of Stone has moved downstairs to occupy the former Bags Of Beautiful Gifts unit, with a great range of furniture, gifts, cards and more.

Gallery On The Square, which was based inside Bags Of Beautiful Gifts, has moved to Lichfield Street to take on the former Shelter charity shop. It also has a new name too – Abbey Framing Service – but will be offering the same picture framing, photo-to-canvas and picture restoration services.

Finally, an empty unit in Granville Square (next to the entrance to Fleur’s cafe) is being taken by Hilderstone fashion boutique Snooty Madam. It should be open very soon
