Cullens will be celebrating its first birthday in style after the Stone restaurant made it into the 2015 Michelin Guide.

The Radford Street restaurant, which opened in October 2013 and is run by husband-and-wife team Richard and Kara Cullen, was visited – out of the blue – by a Michelin inspector back in March.

Kara said: “We had no idea that he was coming! Restaurants get into the Michelin Guide through recommendations, so we’d like to thank the customers who have recommended us. The inspector tasted lots of Richard’s stocks and the food that was being prepared for the service. He also asked Richard lots of questions about the restaurant and the menu.”

Last Thursday (25th September), Kara and Richard waited with bated breath to see if they had made it into the 2015 Guide, which was published online.

“We were delighted,” Kara said. “It’s wonderful to have some recognition for what we’ve been trying to achieve over the last 12 months.”

The inspector’s comments in the Michelin Guide entry for Cullens state: “Cullens is run by an experienced young couple and is simply but comfortably furnished in a classic style. Fresh ingredients are carefully cooked in a subtle modern manner. Dishes are attractively presented and lunch is a steal.”
