Firefighters are calling on companies or individuals that have spare wooden pallets in Stone to donate them to Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The pallets, which would be set alight, would play a vital role in fire behaviour training which crews have to refresh upon regularly to meet the required safety standards. The practical training demonstrates how blazes react in different environments – such as when backdraft occurs – and how best to deal with them should they happen during a real-life incident.
Businesses that would like to donate pallets – in any condition – are asked to email webmaster@staffordshirefire.gov.uk – the service will collect the pallets.
Jon Crew, watch manager in training and development, said: “It is absolutely vital, for the safety of our firefighters and our communities, that all of our operational staff regularly take part in fire behaviour training. To do this we need a constant supply of pallets that can be set alight to allow firefighters to gain vital experience, in a safe and controlled manner, of how to tackle blazes in various environments and circumstances.
“I would urge any businesses or residents, that have pallets that they are no longer using to contact us. By donating the pallets, you will be playing an important part in helping to keep the residents of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent safe.”
