A group of friends from Stone will need plenty of paddle power when they canoe from Birmingham to London in 48 hours later this month to raise money for the Peter Pan special needs nursery.
Jac Vincent, Jack Reinholds and Matt Bettany from Stone and Mike Wilson from Trentham – who all work for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service – will be starting their Grand Union Canal Canoe Challenge on 22nd August. They will be canoeing for 140 miles, not to mention passing through 166 locks.
They hope to raise £5,000 for the Peter Pan Nursery for children with special needs in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Jac said: “The nursery provides a valuable service and even has a waiting list for children and families hoping to make use of its services. The nursery relies solely on charitable donations to allow the staff to do the amazing work they do. We have seen the excellent service provided by the Peter Pan nursery and this is why we have decided to dedicate our cause to them.
“Our challenge will involve us canoeing 140 miles and we are aiming to complete this in 48 hours. We’ve been training hard for months to make sure we are ready for this but, as none of us have ever had any canoeing experience before, it’s going to be very hard going.”
You can make a donation and help them reach their £5,000 target on their Just Giving page.
