Hundreds of members of staff from departments across Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service will be out in force for Community Safety Day on 1st October.
Employees ranging from administrative assistants to directors will be taking to the streets, to town centres and community venues across the county in a bid to make Staffordshire’s residents as safe as possible, in their homes and on the roads.
Over 50 public and private events and sessions will be taking place during the large-scale safety drive, which coincides with national Older People’s Safety Day on October 1st. A Community Safety Day event is to be held at Summerfield Court, Alton Close, Stone, ST15 8AR and all are welcome. Details in the poster below…
Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford said: “We held our first Community Safety Day in 2014, and it proved to be a phenomenal success, both with local residents and the staff who took part. This year, we will be arranging even more events that will see members of the team from departments including payroll, HR, communications and vehicle maintenance joining our firefighters and Community Safety Officers across the county, giving potentially life-saving advice to residents. They will also be carrying out home fire risk checks and answering any questions people may have regarding fire safety in the home and on the roads.
“The number of incidents we attend has dropped dramatically in recent times, with demand decreasing by 33% over the past six years. That achievement is in no small part down to the proactive prevention and protection work that we carry out within our communities. However, we are 100% dedicated to further driving down the number of incidents we are called to, and the Community Safety Day is another example of our firm belief that prevention is far better than cure. We hope that by mobilising the full weight of our resources, we can have a positive effect on the number of fires that take place across the county.”
