Parents, staff and children from Smarty’s Day Nursery will be raising money for a cardiac charity on a sponsored 10k walk on Saturday 2nd July.
Nursery chef Sue Perry tragically lost her son Timothy in 2011 to hypertrophic cardomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle. He was just 19. Sue’s nursery colleagues are aiming to help Sue to raise £5,000 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), a charity that works nationally to to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death.

[box type=”shadow” ]Smartys managing director Janet Skelton said: “After five difficult and painful years, Timothy’s family have decided to try and raise people’s awareness of the risk of this disease among young people. We’ve decided to support them for this great cause and we would very much appreciate local people’s help.
“We are trying to raise enough money for CRY to attend our local community and carry out screening on 100 young people and make people more aware of the risks.”[/box]
Nursery staff were at Stone Festival recently to kick-start their fundraising, where they raised over £400 through a tombola stall at Westbridge Park.

And they are planning lots of fundraising events over the next few months, starting with the sponsored 10k walk on Saturday.
If you would like to take part, the walk starts at Smarty’s Eden Court pre-school nursery in Lichfield Road (next to Fairway garage) at 10am. There will also be a raffle and refreshments on the day, too. Please call the nursery on 01785 812828 to register.
The nursery is hoping to raise £5,000 for CRY and has set up a Just Giving page for online donations. Please do give generously if you can.
