Stone residents have been urged to provide information after an object was thrown at a train just after it passed through a level crossing in the town, breaking the driver’s windscreen.
The object is thought to have been thrown from the bridge over the railway near Langtry’s pub.
The train was passing through the area at 3.48pm on Wednesday 21st September when the object was thrown, causing around £10,000 worth of damage.

Sergeant Gary Matthews from British Transport Police said today: “I am appealing to parents and adults to emphasise the dangers to your children and if you live near the railway, ask yourself if you know where your children are playing.
“The railway is such a dangerous environment, trains cannot stop quickly or swerve, and are often not seen or heard until it is too late. Trains travelling at top speed can take the length of 20 football pitches to come to a complete stop.”
Officers are now stepping up patrols in the area and would ask for anyone with information about this incident to come forward.
