A Stone local uses paint and canvas to tackle loneliness and mental health, offering free classes and an online group for all.
From Hard Times to Brush Strokes: A Local Hero’s Tale
In Stone, there’s an artist who’s not just about painting pretty pictures. They’ve got a story about turning tough times into something beautiful—and they want everyone in on it.
The Backstory
It all started in 2019. Life was really rough for
. After escaping a bad relationship and feeling pretty low, she found something special in her mum’s house: a box of paints. Sitting down with those paints changed everything. “Painting pulled me out of a really dark place,” she told us. “It was like letting out a breath I didn’t know I was holding.”
Giving Back
Now, Jenny wants to help others find the same escape. “It’s all about giving back,” she explained.
You can access the in-person painting sessions for £9.50 at Stone Station Community Centre on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. It’s a great spot for anyone looking to relax, make friends, and splash paint. The fee covers all materials, complimentary hot drinks and sweet treats!
And for folks who aren’t up for going out or prefer staying home, there’s something too. Jenny runs a free-to-access Facebook group called ‘Beginners Acrylic Arts.’ It’s like a virtual art club where everyone’s welcome.
More Places, More Paint
The painting fun doesn’t stop in Stone. Over in Eccleshall Community Centre, there are sessions on Mondays at 1-2 PM and again at 6:30-7:30 PM, again the charge is £9.50. “It’s for anyone and everyone,” “Especially if you’re feeling a bit isolated or down. Come join us. It’s amazing what a bit of paint can do.”
Why It Matters
People love these painting sessions; look out for feedback on our own Facebook Hobbies and Activities group. What this artist is doing is pretty special. They found light in a dark time through painting, and now they’re spreading that light around.
Jenny says: “Let’s paint a brighter day together,”. And honestly, that sounds like a plan.
