Stone residents and visitors to the town are in for a real treat as the Puppet Tree Jamboree brings puppetry to the town on the 22nd and 29th of June.
Have you ever been eaten by a crocodile? Or perhaps unexpectedly been turned into a Frog?
No? Well, you can now look forward to such unique, incredible experiences at the end of the month right here in Stone or at least bring the family along to be entertained by them!
Yes! It’s time to get ready for such adventures at the Puppet Tree Jamboree that will take place in the Market Square, Stone on Saturday 29th June beginning at 10am with a Parade in the High Street led by the Stone Scout & Guide Band.
The Puppet Jamboree will be opened by Stone’s Deputy Mayor, Cllr Jason Metters. The event includes ten enchanting and entertaining performances, including Punch & Judy, Pinocchio, Muffin the Mule, and an exciting show by children from St Dominic’s Catholic Primary School. The show is about “the Pirates from the Potteries” who sail down the canal into Stone and kidnap the Princess!
The Jamboree compère, Prof. Paul Temple, will introduce each puppet show. To maintain a fun-filled atmosphere throughout the day, he will fire up his vintage 48 Key Pell Fairground Organ in between performances.

On Saturday 22nd, the week before, children can drop into Stone Library from 9am until 12 noon to “make and take” a puppet home. They can then bring their puppet along to join in a performance at the Puppet Jamboree!
Puppets are usually thought of as purely children’s entertainment, and while most of the performances at the Puppet Jamboree will especially appeal to children, this is a free family event!
All the grown-ups, teenagers, and younger brothers and sisters will be invited and encouraged to get involved and try their hand at becoming puppeteers.
So, mark your calendars and just for one day, discover the magical world of Puppet Theatre in all its forms and enjoy a wonderful day of “having fun with puppets!”
All shows and activities are completely free of charge.
A free copy of the 8-page, (ad free,) Programme can be obtained from Autocare behind the Library and regular updates can be found on the Face Book page: Staffordshire Puppet Tree or by visiting the website: thepuppettree.org

The Puppet Tree Jamboree is brought to you by the Staffordshire Puppet Tree – a local Voluntary Community project, and the event is funded by Stone Town Council and Stafford District Arts Council.
In the event of poor weather, heavy rain or strong winds, the shows will take place in St Michael’s Community Hall in Lichfield Street, Stone.
