A new family run day nursery is preparing to open on the Udall Grange estate in Stone, shaped by first time parenthood and a strong connection to the town.

Darcy’s Day Nursery is being launched by husband and wife team Kimberley and David Finch, following the arrival of their daughter Darcy in September 2025.
“We didn’t set out with a plan to open a nursery,” Kimberley explained.
“It really came from becoming parents ourselves. When Darcy arrived, it made us look properly at the early years sector and the support that’s out there for families locally.”
After months of research and conversations, the couple decided to take a new direction together.
“We realised we wanted to build something of our own, with our daughter and other local families at the heart of it,” David said.
“This feels like the start of a new journey for us, and something we hope will become a lasting legacy for Darcy as she grows up.”
Why Stone and Udall Grange
Kimberley and David have previously lived in Hereford and Lichfield, but say Stone is where they truly felt settled.
“We’ve lived in a few places, but Stone is the place that really felt like home for us,” Kimberley said.
“There’s such a strong sense of community here. You see people looking out for one another, and that really matters when you’re raising a family.”
The decision to open on the Udall Grange estate was closely tied to that sense of belonging.
“Stone has so much to offer young families,” David added.
“Opening a nursery here feels like a way for us to give something back to the town.”
What the nursery will offer
Darcy’s Day Nursery will provide childcare for children aged two to five, operating Monday to Friday from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm, for 42 weeks of the year during term time. Wraparound after school care for older children is also planned.
The couple say their approach is about balance.
“We want to combine the high quality early years learning you’d expect from a larger nursery with the warmth and familiarity of a small, family run setting,” Kimberley said.
“Because we’re keeping things personal, we can really focus on individual children,” David added. “It’s about getting to know them properly and supporting them in their own way.”
Affordability has also played a role in shaping the business.
“We also want childcare to feel accessible,” Kimberley said.
“By keeping our pricing competitive, we’re hoping quality provision is within reach for more families in Stone.”
The space, safety and day to day care
The nursery is a newly built facility, fitted out entirely with new equipment. Wooden toys and open ended resources sit at the centre of the setting.
“We’ve been very deliberate about what we’ve chosen,” Kimberley said.
“Wooden toys really encourage imagination and creative play, which is something we value hugely.”
Food will be prepared on site, with nutrition high on the agenda.
“Everything will be handmade here,” David explained.
“We’re focused on good nutrition and making sure children are getting their five a day as part of everyday life.”
Safety and standards are described as non negotiable.
“Safety is absolutely central to everything we’re doing,” Kimberley said.
“We’re Ofsted registered, the building is fully secured, and everyone working with us will have enhanced DBS checks and up to date qualifications.”
Looking ahead to opening
While the nursery will initially be run by Kimberley and David, there are plans to grow the team as demand develops.
“At the start it’s very much a family run setting,” David said.
“But as we grow, we’ll be bringing in the right people to support the nursery and help it develop properly.”
An open day is planned ahead of the spring 2026 opening, giving parents the chance to visit the nursery, see the space and ask questions.
“We’re really looking forward to meeting local families and starting those conversations early,” Kimberley said.
“This is something we’re incredibly proud of,” David added. “We’re excited to see Darcy’s Day Nursery become part of the Stone community.”
