Northern Premier League club Stafford Rangers have announced the appointment of John Macmillan as their new chairman. Football fans in the local area who don’t want to watch Championship games with Stoke City, or 9th-tier matches involving Stone Old Alleynians, may be interested in following Stafford, especially now they have made significant changes at the top.

Macmillan, a club stalwart, has served in various roles at the club, including director, company secretary, and chairman of the club’s charity, Stafford Rangers in the Community. He is well placed to guide the club into a brighter future.
Macmillan’s commitment to the club and the community is evident in his diverse roles and contributions. In recent years, he has undertaken several walking challenges for the club’s charity, raising funds to support youth initiatives. His dedication and leadership skills have been recognised and appreciated by the club and its community.
Macmillan replaces John Hayne, who resigned after a year in the role earlier this month. The club cited a need for a “culture change,” and believes Macmillan is the right person to oversee the club’s new structure and exciting future.
A club statement read:
“John brings a wealth of experience and passion to the club. He has demonstrated strong leadership and a deep commitment to our local community.”
Macmillan’s appointment comes at a time when the club has welcomed significant financial backing from US-based investors George Bruneau and Nathan Owen. The board of directors “unanimously approved” the investment in January, stating that it will “eventually hugely benefit the football club.”
Interestingly, the funds have been injected through shares rather than a loan, meaning there is no requirement for repayment or interest. This approach provides a solid financial foundation for the club, allowing it to focus on growth and development.
The club is set to reveal a new board structure soon, marking a new era for Stafford Rangers. The club stated:
“We will be providing a full update of the new board structure shortly. As we embark on this new chapter, we encourage all our supporters to rally behind John’s appointment and get involved.”
The club also emphasised its commitment to fostering greater unity and breaking down any divides between the Board and its fans.
The statement concluded:
“At Stafford Rangers, we believe the club belongs to all of us. Together, we will build a stronger future.”
The appointment of John Macmillan as the new chairman of Stafford Rangers signifies a new chapter in the club’s history. With new leadership, significant investment, and a forthcoming new board structure, the club is poised for an exciting future.
