The chairman of Stone Food and Drink Festival has reassured people in the town that this year’s festival is definitely going ahead, despite the community interest company (CIC) that runs the popular event being struck off the register by Companies House.

The CIC was dissolved on 17th January because of a delay in submitting accounts. But Festival chairman Richard Stevens said today it was business as usual for the festival committee and that they hoped to get the company registered as soon as possible.

Richard Stevens, chairman of Stone Food and Drink Festival, said: “We have been informed of an order made by the Registrar of Companies on the 17th January relating to the Community Interest Company’s entry on the Register. This was caused by a delay in submitting accounts.

“We can confirm that every step is being taken to regularise the position and that we have today instructed our solicitors to make an immediate application for restoration of the company to the register.

“The Festival is, and always has been, a non-profit making venture. Under the Memorandum and Articles of Association any profit is required to be retained in the company. All involved in organising the Festival are volunteers and no salaries or dividends are paid to anyone. The only liability of the company is a loan granted to the company by one of the directors.

“It is hoped that this issue will be resolved without delay and this year’s Festival will be going ahead as planned over the weekend of Friday 5th to Sunday 7th October.”

Why weren’t the accounts submitted then? Surely you are given plenty of time to do so, followed by a reminder, presumably then followed by a warning you are to be struck off before they actually do. Dont get me wrong I think the festival is great for the town and wish it every success but not if it is run by untrustworthy characters.

  • This is good news Richard and I look forward to another successful Festival
