Police have condemned two youngsters who deliberately ran in front of an oncoming train in Stone.
They ducked under barriers stopping traffic at the Uttoxeter Road level crossing, near the Three Crowns pub, and ran across the tracks.
Motorists waiting at the crossing shouted at the youths, who hid their faces and ran off.
The incident happened at around 10.15am on Thursday 23rd February but details have just been released by British Transport Police.
PC Jane Addison said: “The actions of these youths are absolutely unbelievable. They were clearly willing to risk their lives to nip across the tracks either to get where they were going more quickly or simply just for the sake of causing mischief. This time they were lucky, but we have seen many incidents in which others have not been as fortunate.
“Barriers are in place at level crossings to keep motorists and pedestrians safe from harm and, when used correctly, that is exactly what they achieve. However, when barriers and signals are ignored, the consequences can be horrific. I urge anyone with information about this incident to get in touch.”
