Residents and businesses in Stone can show their demand for faster, more reliable broadband in a new survey set up by the county council.

A demand registration survey is being launched this week following a £7.5m investment by the county council to ensure every property in Staffordshire has access to basic broadband and at least 90 per cent have access to superfast broadband by mid-2015.

The survey will determine the demand for superfast broadband across Staffordshire.

Late last year, a broadband speed survey confirmed where not-spots and slow-spots existed around the area. This new survey now aims to identify hotspots for demand in order to demonstrate to broadband companies why they should invest in Staffordshire locations they’ve previously ignored.

County council cabinet member for environment and assets Mark Winnington said: “It is very important that people complete the survey so that we know where the untapped demand is for superfast broadband and can demonstrate this to providers.”

The new demand survey can be found at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/broadbandconsultation

By the end of 2012 a company will have been selected to carry out the project, with work set to begin by spring 2013. Currently there are 178,000 properties across Staffordshire without basic broadband (at least 2 mbps) and the chosen supplier must ensure that all properties have access to basic broadband, and 90 percent able to access superfast speeds by mid-2015.

  • I’m on Aston Lodge too and we are on the o2 LLU product.  We had an issue with it dropping out all the time and so after o2 ran a test remotely for a period of time the sent a BT engineer out.  He diagnosed an issue with the line and swapped us to a free clean line which has been rock solid.  We get 6Mbits download and just over 1Mbit upload

I live on Aston Lodge and up until recently mine was dropping all the time. After several complaints and hours talking to Indian call centres they finally got it sorted. Broadband in Stone is notoriously bad!

  • only problem is if your phone line is bit rubbish you will never get super fast, mines a bad line at least once a week it drops for hours and my provider wants me to pay for an investigation (i know the problem noise on the line ie dirty line). Ive refused as on my calculations ive lost more than £49.50 they want in last 12 months of connection. I will definately consider switching provider as long as i dont get asked to pay out for investigations. Also if we get a local provider can we have one with a uk call center who can actually investigate the problem. Sorry rant over just fed up with being fobbed of by the so called best value provider in the UK

I think lots of people struggle with their broadband in some parts of the town. I’m lucky where I am I think. We seem to have a pretty good connection
