Stone will be part of a new West Staffordshire Parliamentary constituency under revised proposals from the Boundary Commission.
The Boundary Commission for England is carrying out a review of current arrangements after Parliament decided to reduce the number of constituencies in England from 533 to 502. Its initial proposals were published in September 2011 and saw Stone joining Newcastle. That proposal has now been abandoned following opposition from people in Newcastle.
The Boundary Commission’s revised proposal would see Stone in a new West Staffordshire constituency along with parts of the current Stoke South seat like Trentham, Blurton and Meir Park, and Loggerheads, Whitmore, Madeley, Halmerend, Audley and Bignall End.
The new constituency could see Stone’s Conservative MP Bill Cash taking on Labour’s Stoke South MP Rob Flello, whose current seat would disappear.
The consultation on the revised proposals is open until 10th December – you can have your say at https://consultation.boundarycommissionforengland.independent.gov.uk/ You can find out more about the Boundary Commission’s plans for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent here.
