A chance to say it with flowers

A voluntary organisation has the chance to publicise their work in a unique way in Stone.

The borough council is looking for an emblem or logo to be created in flowers for the carpet bed at the town’s Stonefield Park. Now charities and community groups are being invited to tell Stafford Borough Council why their logo should take centre stage in the park.

Stonefield Park is extremely popular with local people and visitors to the town and has been instrumental in helping the town to success in the national ‘In Bloom’ competition.

Councillor Mike Smith, Cabinet member for Leisure said: “Thousands of people use this beautiful park throughout the year and this is a great opportunity for a worthy organisation to have its logo created in flowers for everyone to see.”

Last year’s flower bed was designed to celebrate Stone Scout & Guide Band’s 27th year of ‘Playing Strong’. Bandmaster Kerry Dawson said: “The flower bed was a great thing for the band and it provided us with a useful part of advertisement and showed the town that we were still here and playing strong!”

To nominate, tell the council why your organisation should take pride of place in the park. Deadline for nominations is 30 January 2014 with planting of the beds taking place in June. Email parks@staffordbc.gov.uk with your nominations or write to Roger Leverett at Stafford Borough Council, Civic Centre, Riverside, Stafford. ST16 3AQ.

The carpet bed at Victoria Park in Stafford will be celebrating the 400 year anniversary of the first Mayor for the town, Matthew Craddock, in 1614.
