A Little Bit of Stone celebrates Fourteen years of bringing local news to the town

A Little Bit of Stone - Jon with Birthday Cakes

August marks the 14th anniversary of the launch of A Little Bit of Stone – thanks for all the support.

The past 12 months have been particularly busy. We’ve had the launch of the new website, a general election (and hustings), a radio appearance on Vibe1, my turning 50, and even more coverage across our social media platforms!

I feel incredibly proud when people stop me when I’m out and about to give me feedback on ALBOS or ask me questions about the town.

People may think that we operate ALBOS in a bubble, but we are proud founding members of the ICNN:

“Members of ICNN are independent of commercial, political and religious interests. They are community focused and are producing contemporaneous news content. All uphold high professional standards, including accuracy, transparency, integrity, accountability and fairness.

They have committed to adhere to Ipso’s Editor’s Code of Practice or the Impress Standards Code and all demonstrate a clear and transparent management/ownership structure. Our members are fully inclusive of all ethnicities and backgrounds and are nondiscriminatory.”

We are also involved with the Public Interest News Foundation:

The Public Interest News Foundation is the UK’s first charity to support public interest news – ethical and impartial journalism that informs and empowers the public about the things that matter to all of us.”

Having a network of like-minded people who are going through the same trials and tribulations is invaluable.

ALBOS is self-funded with support from advertisers who sponsor and support our website, Facebook subscribers who contribute a small monthly fee and the people who click the button on our website and buy us a virtual coffee. This year, we have seen a record number of individuals financially supporting us, especially on the back of our general election coverage, so thanks to everyone who has helped contribute.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to ALBOS over the past 12 months (and beyond). Liking, commenting, and sharing play a massive part in getting our output seen. Despite this, Facebook, as our primary traffic source, sends notifications six days after we publish them. For that reason, please do consider subscribing to our free weekly email newsletter (link at the bottom of the page) or join our WhatsApp community or Facebook channel – both of which are one-way channels that we can push news out to you in a timely fashion!

To wrap things up, I’d once again like to thank Mrs ALBOS and all my family for their unwavering support when I invariably take on more than I really should! I have to fit ALBOS around being a husband, dad and having a full-time IT consultancy business – I couldn’t do this without their support.

Best wishes

Jon
