A Little Bit of Stone to lose almost 10,000 followers overnight

Social Media Following

As we start 2025, I wanted to announce that A Little Bit of Stone is leaving X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, as concerns over its current direction grow.

Under Elon Musk’s ownership, the site has faced criticism for hosting content that some believe undermines democracy and decency, prompting a wave of departures from organisations prioritising accountability and community values.

Why ALBOS is stepping away

With nearly 10,000 followers on X, this decision was not made lightly. “We’ve always strived to connect with our readers on platforms that respect their values,” says Jon Cook. “Staying on X no longer aligns with our commitment to promoting trust, inclusivity, and integrity in our content and interactions.”

Since Musk acquired the platform in late 2022, X has faced criticism for removing safeguards on misinformation and fostering environments some say allow harmful rhetoric to thrive. For ALBOS, these changes were unacceptable, given our focus on fostering community in Stone.

Where you’ll find us now

ALBOS will continue its vibrant community engagement primarily on Facebook and Instagram – but you can also find us on BlueSky, Threads and TikTok. Our primary goal has always been connecting Stone’s people with the stories and events that matter. These platforms allow greater creativity and interaction, from photo-led stories to comment discussions.

What this means for followers

Leaving X means ALBOS is prioritising platforms that align with its principles. It may seem like the loss of a substantial following, but we hope the transition strengthens its bond with engaged readers elsewhere.

As the digital landscape evolves, news outlets face tough choices. ALBOS’s decision reflects its commitment to serving the community without compromising its values.

Our account will remain on X, but no further updates or retweets will take place from it.

  • This sounds like more nannying. I enjoy seeing both sides of things and then choosing for myself. Its more sensible in the long run.

“X has faced criticism for removing safeguards on misinformation and fostering environments some say allow harmful rhetoric to thrive”

He has removed the heavy censorship and has added independent community notes which highlight misinformation, much of it coming from the legacy media. Shameful behaviour to run away from the site now that it has become a beacon for free speech in the face of oppressive regimes all over the world.

Is TikTok really any better than X ?

That’s very sad and disappointing to hear. Opposing opinions and ideas won’t dissappear because you no longer hear them.
