A spicy start to Stone’s foodie festivities!

Festival chairman Richard Stevens, left, with Viv and Brad from Lymestone Brewery

Stone Food and Drink Festival takes place on the weekend of Friday 4th to Sunday 6th October – but Stone is preparing for a week packed with food-related events, starting on 28th September with a Chilli-off competition at Lymestone Brewery.

Starting at 7pm on Saturday 28th September, Brad and Viv are inviting punters to put 1 litre of their best chilli-based dish (or drink) forward for tasting by an expert judging panel who will crown the ‘Chilli-Off Champion 2013’. Click HERE for details of how to take part.

The same evening, James Gillespie of Touchstone Wines will join forces with Tony Panter of March Hare Kitchen to give a masterclass in food-and-wine matching during a six-course gourmet dinner at Stone Railway Station. Call 07770 662662 for more information on this ticket-only event.

While the festival’s three-day residence on Westbridge Park will once again be at the heart of festivities, there are set to be no less than 77 different events taking place in 44 venues in and around the town, ranging from food quizzes to themed meals, special offers – and much more besides.

Festival chairman Richard Stevens said: “From the outset, this event has always been about bringing business into Stone and giving local businesses a boost, so we’ve always worked closely with local pubs, restaurants and shops to help ensure they get involved and can benefit from the extra buzz that’s in and around town during festival week.

“I knew this year we’d attracted more interest than ever before, but it wasn’t until I received an email from a keen supporter – who just happens to be an accountant – who had been impressed by the programme and decided to crunch some numbers that we realised we actually have 77 events in 44 venues. Whether you live in the town or further afield, I’d recommend you visit our website and take a look at the great events and offers going on in town all week – this is now about far more than just ‘one big weekend’!”
