A warm winter dining experience at No. 26, Aston Marina

On a cold and wintery lunchtime, we were invited to the No. 26 restaurant at Aston Marina to explore its winter menu. Known for its commitment to locally sourced ingredients and award-winning dining, we were eager to see how it lived up to its reputation.

A cosy, welcoming atmosphere

Despite the chill outside, No. 26 provided a warm welcome with its modern fire burning in the centre of the restaurant. We were seated in the glass conservatory, which remained warm and comfortable throughout our meal despite the abundance of glass. Opting for a noon booking, the restaurant started quiet but became more busy with a steady flow of diners. The staff struck a perfect balance between attentive and unobtrusive, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing two-hour dining experience.

A menu with a local focus

The menu at No. 26 proudly showcases local produce, with a map that visually demonstrates the food miles involved. This thoughtful touch highlights their commitment to sustainability and supporting regional suppliers, from Staffordshire milk and cream to Shropshire meats and Cheshire vegetables.

Aston Marina - menu food miles

The range of options was impressive, including dishes catering to vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diets, alongside an array of specials to keep things interesting.

Starters: an appetising beginning

I began with the Asian Pork Belly Bites. Beautifully presented and delicately flavoured, they were the perfect starter to set the tone for the meal. Mrs ALBOS opted for the Chicken Satay, which came with fresh, crunchy lettuce and a well-balanced satay sauce with a satisfying peanut crunch. Portion sizes were spot on for starters, leaving us eager for the next course.

Mains: hearty and flavourful

For my main, I chose the Coq Au Vin Pie. The pastry was exceptional, light and buttery, encasing a rich filling. The creamed potatoes were buttery smooth, and the accompanying crisp, flavourful vegetables rounded out the dish beautifully.

Mrs ALBOS enjoyed the 8oz Sirloin Steak, cooked to perfection with a caramelised crust that sealed in its juices. The onion rings were a particular standout — crunchy, satisfying, and with the onion staying firmly in place. The Parmesan and Truffle Chips were also really good, perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, delivering indulgence in every bite.

Desserts: a delightful finale

We couldn’t resist trying desserts to round off the experience. The Lemon Crème Brûlée Tart was my choice, offering a light, fresh, and unmistakably lemony flavour that cleansed the palate and provided a bright ending to the meal. Meanwhile, Mrs ALBOS indulged in the Salted Dark Chocolate Torte, a rich and velvety treat that melted in the mouth, leaving a lingering salty-sweet finish.
