The A34 at the Meaford roundabout in Stone has been flooded after the recent heavy rainfall, leading to vehicles getting stuck and one lane of the road southbound being closed.
The picture above was taken by the fire service this morning. A spokesman said: “If you do come across flood water please don’t try to drive through it as, like this road, there could be hidden dips, making the water a lot deeper than it looks.”
The fire service attended three separate incidents in Friday. An elderly man was taken to hospital after his car got stuck and floodwater went into his car. A van and a Land Rover also had to be pushed out of the waters.
Staffordshire County Councillor and Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport Mike Maryon said on Friday afternoon: “The traffic going southbound has been reduced to one lane, which is causing some delays. We have crews at the scene who will be trying to clear the excess water from the road and would urge people to take their time and bear with us, finding alternative routes where possible, as we work to improve the situation.”
Someone posted this video on YouTube today. Caution: it contains strong language – and irresponsible driving. *Please* do not drive into any floodwater. You never know how deep it could be. And 4×4 vehicles are not amphibious – they can get stuck too

More information and pictures as we get them.

its not a great video to be honest as it shows someone ignoring a road closed sign, swearing, and breaking the law by turning and reversing on a dual carriageway. not really the best example to be setting imo….

The muppet who decided to drive past a road closed sign, and through the flood is no more than an irresponsible idiot. If they had got stuck, they’d have been crying for help, when there are more deserving cases. The foul language is an indication of the lack of common sense this person has got.

Surely the driver in the clip is breaking the law by going past a ‘Road Closed’ sign and endangering personal safety by entering a flood that is clearly responsible for other vehicles being stuck. This clip should be removed.

He isn’t actually breaking the law, only signs in red circles are mandatory (I’m a retired traffic cop). However, he’s still a brainless idiot.

Driving through the water is a stupid thing to do but as you say not illegal but he is breaking the law when he reverses on the a34 and executes a 3 point turn (about 1.10 on the video). The a34 is still open to traffic as seen by the lorry and car at the start of the video….

To be honest I didn’t pick up on the bad language when I viewed the video before publishing it on the site earlier today. So I’m really sorry that you’ve been offended by it. I’ve added a warning to the text before the video to warn others
