The roadworks are to create a new layout so that fire engines can turn right on to the A34 from the new community station that is currently being built. At the moment, if fire engines want to head towards Trentham firefighters have to head for the Walton roundabout and come back on themselves.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “This will enable the Service to provide more effective and efficient turn-out arrangements and provide a speedier response to the community around Stone.”
