A leadership training programme that has been credited with transforming ABB’s Power Systems UK operation in Stone has won a prestigious award.
ABB came out on top in the ‘best learning and development initiative’ category for its ‘Leadership for Managers’ programme in the 2015 CIPD People Management Awards.
The award was announced on Tuesday 29th September at a glittering ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, hosted by radio and television broadcaster Sandi Toksvig. Delivered by the CIPD, the professional body for HR and people development, in partnership with People Management Magazine, the awards are the most prestigious in the industry, recognising outstanding and innovative achievements in people management and development.
Leadership for Managers is a transformational development initiative that has measurably improved customer satisfaction, employee engagement and overall revenue for ABB’s Power Systems UK Division. The initiative was driven by ABB’s ambitious growth plans for this multi-million pound division. These plans rely on the successful conversion of the valuable business opportunities presented by its flagship customers. To improve its conversion rate, ABB embarked on a development programme which has delivered significant benefits by enhancing the capability of its managers to instinctively think and act like leaders.
Jon Downs, ABB Hub Manager Substations for the UK and Ireland, said: “In the 16 years I have been with ABB we have won many awards, but this award is perhaps the most satisfying because it recognises our commitment to developing people. It is fair to say that the Leadership for Managers Programme has been credited with completely transforming our Power Systems business. Technology and products are at the heart of what we do, yet it is our people and their relationships with each other, as well as with customers and suppliers that really make the difference since they are key to successful project delivery and ultimately profitability.”
