ABB take part in World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

Macmillan Cancer Support

Staff at ABB’s Stone site will help raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support on Thursday 26th September when they host an event for the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’.

During the morning, ABB employees and visitors will come together to meet and mingle at the Oulton Road site, share a coffee and a snack and make a donation to the charity.

ABB is a long-term supporter of Macmillan Cancer Support as part of its ongoing commitment to help raise the quality of life in communities where it operates. It chose Macmillan as one of its official charities because so many people are disadvantaged by cancer. As an official charity of ABB, Macmillan benefits from ABB employees’ involvement in fundraising and support activities and ABB matches every pound raised for Macmillan by its members of staff, effectively doubling their fundraising efforts.

Since ABB began its support for Macmillan in October 2000, its employees have worked together to raise £750,000, with fundraising highlights over the years including members of staff raising sponsorship for undergoing challenges like the Great North Run, Great North Swim, climbing to the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, trekking across Iceland and the Sahara desert.

Stephen Trotter, head of ABB’s Power Systems business in the UK said: “I’m proud that ABB staff continue to throw their weight behind Macmillan Cancer Support.”

Grace Higgins from Macmillan Cancer Support said: “I cannot thank ABB enough for its continued support and involvement in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest fight most of us will ever face. “

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s (www. macmillan.org.uk) biggest annual event and the charity hopes to beat last year’s impressive fundraising record of £15 million, which it will use to make sure that nobody will have to face cancer alone and will benefit from the support of a Macmillan team, whether they’re facing diagnosis, treatment or remission.
