Stone charity AED Donate unveiled Coronation Street and Phoenix Nights star Ted Robbins and Signal Radio’s Paul Fairclough as their patrons at their spring ball last weekend.
Actor and comedian Ted Robbins suffered a cardiac arrest while on stage at Manchester Arena last year. He was there at the Moat House Hotel in Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday 16th April to entertain the 260 guests, and also to speak of his passion for the need for defibrillators in communities.

Signal Radio’s Paul Fairclough was named on the night as the charity’s other patron. He said: “We were both delighted to accept and keep raising the profile of this charity and its work to make Staffordshire and Cheshire heart safe.”
AED Donate works with community groups and businesses across the country to help them raise the money to install defibrillators. Sudden cardiac arrest is the UK’s biggest killer. Access to a defibrillator, though, can be a lifesaver.
So far, in the charity’s first 18 months, they have installed over 500 defibrillators, including many in their home town: outside Oatcakes & Milkshakes, at The Borehole, outside the Co-op on the High Street and more. And plenty more are currently being fundraised. Have a look at their website for lots more information.

As well as raising lots of money for the charity – over £6,000 -the ball also celebrated the individuals and businesses that have supported AED Donate. Six awards were given out on the night:
Community Partnership Award – Lymestone Brewery for their fundraising Stone Revival ale
Group Fundraising Award – Hazel Slade Primary School
Community Guardian Award – Dove Hearing Centre in Lichfield
Individual Fundraising Award – Carl Dixon from Newport
Corporate Champion Award – Carl Phelps from Tesco in Longton
Alex Brown Award – Alex Brown died last year aged just 25 after a sudden cardiac arrest. His family set up a memorial fund to support the CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) charity’s screening programme. Alex’s sister Rachel Dingle received the award on the night.
