Aerial hoop and silks classes coming to Rooftop Studios in Stone

A new form of aerial training is coming to Stone early next year, with Rooftop Studios set to introduce aerial hoop and silks classes from January 2026.

The classes will run from the studio’s Stone base, alongside its growing Leek branch, and will be the first time aerial hoop and silks have been offered by a dance school in the town.

Aerial work has become more common in recent years, particularly within musical theatre, contemporary dance and live performance. For many students, accessing that type of training usually means travelling to larger towns or cities.

Rooftop Studios says the move is about widening the options available locally, rather than adding a standalone class.

Laura Keeling, Studio Director, said the decision followed increasing interest from students and parents.

“We’ve seen a real shift in what young performers are being asked to do,” she said.

“Aerial skills are now cropping up more and more in training environments and auditions. Bringing hoop and silks to Stone means our students don’t have to go elsewhere to access that side of their development.”

The aerial programme will include a structured syllabus, with accredited exams available from age four. Older students will be able to work towards higher grades that carry UCAS tariff points, which can be used as part of university or performing arts college applications.

Rooftop Studios already offers a range of dance and performing arts training from its Stone studio, with classes for children and young people across multiple disciplines.
