ALBOS launches new ways to keep connected with local news

ALBOS WhatsAppA Little Bit of Stone takes a digital stride forward by launching a WhatsApp community channel, ensuring swift news updates for Stone residents, beyond the whims of social media algorithms.

In the digital age where instant information is key, we at A Little Bit of Stone (ALBOS) have always been committed to providing timely and relevant updates to our community. However, the ever-changing algorithms of social platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) have made this task somewhat challenging. That’s why we’ve decided to launch a WhatsApp community channel, ensuring a more direct and immediate line of communication with you all.

Overcoming Social Media Constraints

Navigating through the modern social media landscape has been a bit of a tightrope walk. The algorithms on platforms such as Facebook and X tend to favour more sensational or mainstream content, often pushing aside crucial local updates. Our primary aim has always been to keep our local community well-informed, and this new initiative on WhatsApp will allow us to do just that without any algorithmic interference.

WhatsApp enables us to engage directly with you, ensuring that vital local updates reach you without delay.

Initial Piloting and Positive Feedback

Before rolling out this service to everyone, we initiated a pilot with our paid Facebook subscribers and the wonderful supporters from Buy Me a Coffee.

  • Privacy Assured: It’s important to note that while we can view the mobile phone numbers of those who sign up, these will not be visible to others in the group.
  • A One-Way Channel: This channel is designed as a one-way communication platform, allowing us to share updates while ensuring your privacy.
  • You’re in Control: If you’re not benefitting from being in the group, then you can simply leave the community. It’s there so you can jump back in again at any time.

Bridging the Gap Further

Our new WhatsApp channel is just one of the many ways we aim to keep you informed. We also send out a weekly newsletter every Saturday morning at 8 am, encapsulating all the stories posted on our website in the past week. You can easily subscribe to our newsletter at the end of any article on our website.

This initiative with WhatsApp is a substantial step towards fostering a closer connection with you, our readers. It underscores our commitment to local, independent journalism, and our continuous strive to adapt to digital evolution to serve you better.

Are we Leaving Social Media?

No, we won’t be abondoning our social media, we will continue to publish stories and information via them as we always have, however, WhatsApp will be the first place we push things to.

Social media platforms have dictated the frequency of our posts, and reward regularly timed posts – that’s not always how news works!

Our social media posts are typically sent at 2 hour intervals to try and create a regular pattern, this means that key information may not be received in a timely fashion.
