Alleyne’s pool closed until further notice

The swimming pool at Alleyne’s Sports Centre is closed until further notice because of a broken circulation pipe.

Swimmers arriving at the centre off Oulton Road on Friday night were informed of the closure and there were repair teams at the scene. But it’s not known yet when the pool will be open – disappointing news with the half-term break (and free swimming for 15-year-olds and under, plus other pool-based activities).

A borough council spokesman said this morning that they would have a better idea on Monday morning, but that it was almost definitely going to be closed all weekend and the early part of next week too.

The spokesman said that swimming passes for Alleyne’s would be accepted at Stafford leisure centre while the Stone pool is closed.

It’s business as usual for all other activities at the leisure centre.

A borough council spokesman asked people in Stone to call 01785 815715 or email alleynes@staffordbc.gov.uk for more information.

Told today by an employee at the sports centre that there was no update on when the pool would reopen and that the delay was now being caused by the fact that the site is owned/operated by both the borough and county councils and they cannot mutually agree a way forward. Looks like one for our local councillors to take an interest in but bet they won’t touch it.
