A teenager from Stone is helping to spread the word about a special travel and loyalty card for young people from the county council.
The council has been training a group of young champions from Stafford Borough to promote the award-winning Your Staffordshire Card. Their job is to get more young people to sign up to get more businesses involved in offering special benefits to card holders.
The travel/loyalty card was introduced in April 2011. Young people who own a card now benefit from £1 per bus journey, special offers from almost 60 businesses and most recently half-price entry to Drayton Manor Park this summer.
Dan Smith, aged 15, from Stone, one of the Your Staffordshire Card ambassadors, said: “The Your Staffordshire Card scheme is fantastic. I’m really looking forward to getting out there to promote the card to young people who don’t have one yet and to local businesses who want to join the scheme and tap into the youth market.”
Cllr Mike Maryon, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: “The Your Staffordshire Card has proved to be a major success with almost 30,000 young people signing up since it was launched. I am truly delighted with the enthusiasm and dedication of our army of young ambassadors, who seem determined to get more teenagers to sign up for a card and to get more businesses onboard. I wish them well on their mission.”
