A trailer that is believed to have come from Stone has been left abandoned in a lay-by, crammed with roofing waste .
Stafford Borough Council is trying to find the two men responsible for leaving the trailer on Worston Lane after unhooking it from a blue Transit Van.
The trailer had a flat tyre, no registration plate and was overloaded. It was left at the site at around 7pm on Monday (7 June). It is believed to have come from Stone and the council say this is being treated as a fly-tipping offence.
Councillor Jonathan Price, Cabinet Member for Environment at the council said: “From the reports we have had it appears the two men were removing the waste from a roofing job – possibly in Stone – and have left it dumped in the lay-by. This is unacceptable and is a blight on the area. We want anyone with information to contact us in confidence so that we can fine or prosecute these men for fly tipping.”
People with information can email the local authority- grimewatch@staffordbc.gov.uk – or call on 01785 619000. You can also find details of other fly-tipping offences on a dedicated council webpage www.staffordbc.gov.uk/grimewatch. It has cost the local authority more than £30,000 over the last 12 months to clean up fly-tipping.
Councillor Price, added: “The vast majority of our residents have respect for our borough and are sick and tired of seeing it ruined by those irresponsible litter louts. It is not only bad for the environment, it can also hurt potential investment into the area – and the cost of clearing it is picked up by the local taxpayer.
“Our message is very clear; we will fine or prosecute those caught dumping rubbish illegally. But we do need people and businesses to help us by providing information to trace offenders.”
