Aston Marina just outside Stone has secured a £2.75 million funding package from Lloyds to support a series of sustainable developments and ambitious expansion plans.

From farm shop to award-winning venue
Since opening in 2008 as a small marina with a farm shop and bistro, Aston Marina has transformed into one of Staffordshire’s top spots for weddings, dining, and events. Still family-run, the team has continued to invest in the future of the site, evolving it into a venue that blends countryside charm with big-picture thinking.
Plans are now underway to build a 35-bedroom hotel to complement the venue’s existing offer. In the meantime, guests can enjoy a unique overnight stay aboard a wide beam boat recently added to the marina, offering luxury accommodation for couples and diners.
Backing a greener future
The Lloyds funding will help Aston Marina take a big step forward in its commitment to sustainability. A key part of the investment will go towards installing a 300kVA solar energy array. Once complete, it’s expected to generate enough electricity to meet the day-to-day needs of the venue.
This project adds to a growing list of green initiatives already in motion, aimed at reducing the business’s environmental impact and future-proofing operations.
Andy Matthews, Relationship Director at Lloyds, praised the marina’s ambition:
“Aston Marina exemplifies the kind of innovative and forward-thinking business we are proud to support.
Their dedication to sustainability and commitment to growth align with our values, and we look forward to seeing them thrive in the years to come.”
Helen Clayton, Director at Aston Marina, added:
“We are incredibly proud of how far Aston Marina has come since its inception. Lloyds’ support is enabling us to future-proof our business, invest in sustainable solutions, and offer a truly unique experience to our visitors.”
A business anchored in Stone
While the expansion and sustainability drive are key parts of the marina’s future, its local roots remain front and centre. The team continues to invest in its people, build on the visitor experience, and promote Stone as a destination for events, leisure, and hospitality.
