Two nurseries in Stone have received an award for the work they do in helping to improve the health of their youngsters.
Five nurseries recently achieved platinum level – with two from Stone striking silver – in the borough council Nurturing Health scheme.
The two ‘silver’ nurseries were Meaford Day Nursery and Meaford Fields Day Nursery, both in Stone. Five nurseries from Stafford became ‘platinum’ winners: Butterflies Day Nursery, Honeybuns Nursery Group, Horn End Stafford, Horn End Hixon and the Dolly Mixtures Day Nursery.
The Nurturing Health Award was introduced in 2011 aimed at supporting people working in the early years sector to provide healthier lifestyles for young children. The scheme offers four levels of award with platinum being the highest that a nursery can achieve. In total six nurseries have now reached platinum with many more meeting the gold, silver and bronze standards.
The nurseries are judged on the menus they provide to the children – ensuring that they create a healthy, balanced and varied diet.
Children and staff were presented their certificates by the mayor of Stafford Borough, Councillor Ray Sutherland.
