Stone Music Festival came to a brilliant end on Sunday with Ballroom Glitz and Roxy Magic taking the crowd right back to the bright flares and platform boots of the 1970s.
The Vanz, Murphy’s Marbles and Phoenix had got things rolling earlier in the day, but it was Ballroom Glitz’s stomp through the 70s that really got the crowd fired up.
Classics from T-Rex, Slade, Bay City Rollers and more were fired off in a brilliant set.

Roxy Magic must have wondered how they could top it, but they were amazing, taking the crowd on a journey through the best of Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry.
They saved the best till the very last, though, by inviting ‘backing dancers’ from the crowd to join them on stage for a rousing finale of Let’s Stick Together. It was simply fantastic and a storming end to a great festival weekend.
Huge thanks to the band of volunteers who made this year’s Stone Music Festival happen. Hopefully, it will be back in 2012 but, as the master of ceremonies told the crowd after Roxy Magic had left the stage, it needs the support of people in the town to make it happen.

What a wonderful weekend! Congratulations to all concerned. Janet and I throughly enjoyed the acts on stage in the Market Square on Saturday and then spent the evening at the Classical event in Christchurch. What a fantastic performance. 18th century harpiscord and organ music accompanied by Josiah Wedgwood (alias Ray Johnson) explaining his ‘take’ on the New Age of the mid 1700’s! Brilliant. And then we were back in town to enjoy Sunday’s acts. What a finale! What a pity the weather was so poor. But let’s hope that those involved are encouraged to do it all again next year! Thanks again.
