Back to winning ways for Old Alleynians

After last week’s goalless draw, when the Old Boys failed to find any sort of rhythm, this week’s offering proved to be a complete contrast. Old Alleynians found their form from the off and outplayed sixth-place Hanwood in this West Midlands League Division 1 match from start to finish with some excellent flowing football.

The hosts showed their intensions from the start and a Luke Askey through ball gave Nick Buckley half a chance but his shot from a narrow angle was well saved by the keeper. A couple off mins later the same two combined again, with the speedy Buckley this time going clear, only to be thwarted again by Spittlehouse, in the Hanwood goal. Buckley saw a long range free-kick land on top of the netting before the visitors finally managed to break out and should have done better with a headed chance, which went wide.

Further Stone chances came and went, with a defender diverting another Buckley shot wide and Luke Matthews miscuing Kevin Warrilow’s cross. The Old Alleynians weren’t to be denied however and took the lead on 35 mins. Warrilow down the left pulled the ball back to Danny Heard, left unmarked a couple of metres outside the area. He coolly controlled the ball before clipping it superbly into the corner of the net, giving the keeper no chance. Just before the half-time whistle a Sam Wilson defected shot was scrambled around the post

It took the Alleynians just 10mins to double their lead in the second half. Carl Dibden took the ball out of defence into the visitors half before unleashing a thunderbolt into the top corner of the net with the keeper stranded. Five mins later it was three, this time the dynamic Wilson, who was running the Hanwood midfield ragged, broke down the right and his cross was could have been converted three times by the inrushing home players, before the ball broke back to him to score from close range. The route was completed with ten mins left, after the keeper tipped a shot round the post, Buckleys corner to the far post was driven home by Heard for his second.

An excellent all-round team performance by Stone Old Alleynians, who produced some good entertaining football, for the spectators, throughout the 90 mins, so their aim, now, is to continue this form through the coming fixtures.
