The head of PE at St Dominic’s Priory School won two trophies at the racketlon world championships in Sweden at the end of November.
Racketlon is a sport where competitors play to 21 points at each of the four racket sports – table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis. Barbara Capper has been competing at national level for most of the year, and due to her success won herself a place in Sweden along with 35 other Brits and a host of different countries. She competed in both the veteran category and open age B group.
After a number of highly competitive games spread over three days, Barbara returned victorious in the Open Age B Category and achieved second place in the Veterans category, being narrowly beaten by ex-world champion Lilian Druve from Sweden. She was also presented with a centenary medal, which was presented to the winners to commemorate the Swedish Olympics of 1912.
As a result of her outstanding performance, Barbara has been asked to officially represent England in July.
