Housing developer Barratt Homes West Midlands is doing its bit for the community by setting up a foodbank collection point at its Yarnfield Park development.
Local residents will be able to donate non-perishable food items and toiletries there until Friday December 18th. Foodstuffs collected within the period will be donated to the Stafford Salvation Army, and distributed to those in need in the Yarnfield area over Christmas.

“We believe no one should go hungry, and as Christmas is a time of giving, we hope the generosity of Yarnfield residents will mean everyone gets enough to eat and has the Christmas they deserve.”
A spokesperson for the Salvation Army added: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Barratt Homes and all who will be donating to us this Christmas. With winter approaching, many families will be under acute financial pressure over the coming months. With people’s help we can continue to provide emergency food parcels and immediate practical assistance as a first step to people working their way out of crisis.” [/box]
[box type=”info” align=”aligncenter” ]Foodbank usage has increased dramatically in the UK in recent years, rising from 40,898 people who were given three days worth of emergency food and support in 2009-10, to 1,084,604 people in 2014-15 and it is estimated that more than 13 million people are currently living below the poverty line.
Food items being donated should be non-perishable, such as UHT or powdered milk, tinned vegetables, rice, pasta, tinned soups, jam, biscuits, porridge, cereals, tea, coffee and tinned fish. Other useful items that can help families in need include sanitary products, toiletries and pet food. [/box]
