A real ale critic who is sampling and reviewing a different bottled beer every day for a whole year has just tried Lymestone Brewery’s Foundation Stone – and loved it!
The Bottled Beer Year reviewer gave Foundation Stone 8.5 out of 10 and said: “I liked this beer an awful lot. It instantly made me – for want of a better word – ‘happy’, and it kept me feeling that way till the very end. Without a doubt it has set me upon a (woodland) path in search of the next beer on Lymestone’s list. And I will not be walking along that path. I will be sprinting.”
Lymestone Brewery is based in the former Bents’ brewery site off Mount Road and was set up by head brewer Ian ‘Brad’ Bradford after his 18 years with Titanic.
Some Lymestone ales have been taken on by JD Wetherspoon and Brad will be at the giant’s Waterhouse pub in Manchester on Thursday 13th January from 8pm to explain its brilliance!

Congratulations again to Lymestone! Another accolade well deserved!
And good luck at Wetherspoons in Manchester on the 13th! But I had to think twice who Ian was. Then it dawned on me. He’s only ever been known to me (and hundreds of others) as Brad! Well done, Brad.

Hi Richard. Don’t know what happened there :/ Always called him Brad on other Lymestone posts. I blame late-night posting! I’ve changed the name now
Mrs Brad
Don’t panic he answers to most names… but you are right everyone knows him as Brad!!!
