Behind the blue lights – Police open day promises family fun and real-life action

Staffordshire Police are throwing open the gates to their world this Saturday, 14th June, with a packed open day at Staffordshire County Showground from 11am to 4pm. Entry and parking are completely free, making this a brilliant local day out for families.

Whether you’re fascinated by forensic science, love a good police dog demonstration, or just fancy sitting in the front seat of a real police car, there’s something for everyone.

What to expect on the day

The open day gives a rare behind-the-scenes look at the people, skills and equipment used every day to keep communities safe. Alongside the police, teams from the Ministry of Defence, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, and West Midlands Ambulance Service will also be on site.

Here’s a taster of what’s on offer:

  • Public order demonstration – see how officers manage protests and large-scale events (11:25am, 1:00pm, 2:30pm)
  • Working at heights – discover how police handle situations involving people in precarious positions (11:00am, 12:35pm, 2:10pm)
  • Drone operations – learn how drones are used for search, rescue and surveillance (12:05pm, 1:25pm, 2:55pm – weather dependent)
  • Armed response showcase – watch a controlled stop in action with firearms officers (12:45pm, 2:00pm)

Family-friendly facilities

There’ll be a range of food and drink stalls on offer, catering to different dietary needs – from juicy burgers and Greek dishes to sweet treats like ice cream. Bingley Hall will house baby change, toilets, breastfeeding facilities, first aid and lost/found points.

Entertainment includes inflatable fun, football club stalls, a model railway, and live broadcasting from Six Towns Radio. It’s a chance to meet local policing teams and explore careers or volunteering with the force too.
