Bertie the Bus is returning to Stone this autumn with an exciting fortnightly programme of creative activities for local families.
The mobile centre takes services directly to the heart of the community and aims to engage families with young children. This term the project is focusing on areas including the Priory estate in Stone.
Staff will also be able to inform parents of other services relevant to their child’s needs and signpost to other activities in Stafford District children’s centres. There will also be opportunities for Bertie to feature at special events and projects to support Early Years engagement in the Stafford District throughout the term.
The service is keen to welcome new ideas and ‘stops’ if local people feel the service would benefit families with young children in their community.
Service manager Dawn Jutton said: “The bus enables families who might not otherwise be aware of or involved in services in the area to find out more. It’s fantastic to see so many children and parents come on board and get involved. We’re also able to really build up relationships with local communities.”
Local social enterprise Mediadivas Ltd, funded by Staffordshire County Council to provide the service, is also using social media to engage with parents, who can find out about up and coming activities and where Bertie will be parked.

So the X1 bus serving the south end of Lichfield Road, Stone and to Stafford therafter has been withdrawn and no replacement offered. Lack of funding apparently. So we just accept having to walk over a mile to town and back after 4.45 Mon-Fri and 1.45 onsat. Is no-one bothered? Stone Councillors your views please?
