Big screen favourites return to Crown Wharf Theatre this weekend

Stone cinema fans have a reason to head out this weekend as there’s a run of much loved films showing at Crown Wharf Theatre.

The canal-side venue has lined up family favourites, a modern musical hit and a British cinema classic, all shown on the big screen and priced to keep things accessible. Tickets are £6 for adults and £5 for children, making it an affordable way to spend an afternoon or evening in Stone.

Cinema screenings continue to be a popular part of the theatre’s programme, offering something a little different from the usual stage performances. With February evenings still cold and dark, the timing feels right for a warm seat and a familiar film.

A family favourite on Sunday afternoon

The weekend opens with Monsters, Inc. on Sunday 8 February at 2.30 pm, rated U.

The Pixar animation follows Sulley and Mike through the colourful world of Monstropolis, where monsters generate power by scaring children, until one small human changes everything. It remains a firm favourite with younger audiences and parents alike, and works just as well for those revisiting it years later.

A musical crowd pleaser in the evening

Later the same day, at 7.30 pm, the screen lights up for The Greatest Showman, rated PG.

Starring Hugh Jackman, the film tells a fictionalised version of the rise of showman P T Barnum, packed with big songs and striking visuals. It is the kind of film that benefits from being watched with an audience, particularly for those who already know the soundtrack by heart.
